What Should You Learn (and Unlearn) from Succession

Succession has the best one liners that can make you laugh, think or feel disgust. Watching the show is almost like having a fun get-together with your not-so-fun friends.

Succession ended quite recently on HBO with four seasons to its name. The show revolves around three siblings (four if you include Connor), Kendall, Roman and Shiv, who yearns for the corporate empire, Waystar Royco, that their father had built.

Here’s what you need to know about their shenanigans:

The Roy siblings are a bunch of narcissistic, selfish people that lack self awareness. Ten minutes into the show and you’d have Roman say the most atrocious thing ever, Shiv laying out impractical ideas, Connor being delusional and Kendall gaslighting everybody. Oh! And not to forget Logan Roy, their boss dad who doesn’t give a crap about anyone’s feelings. This is a brief summary of the characters that frequent Succession. The thing I hate about these people is how much I like them. This love-hate thing would’ve translated to everyone that binges the show.

But..

In the course of consuming Succession, it’s important we don’t acquire these delusional traits that was said before. Of course you need to have the ‘don’t give a f*’ attitude sometimes with some people; as Roman Roy says,

Not only the siblings but also some of the recurring guests like Lucas Matsson, just makes you realise how unlikable a character can be. Rich, powerful men like Matsson eats up those around them and spits them out like they’re nothing. Cousin Greg is an example of a funny snake. Snakes that joke around, but in the end they’re snakes – gotta be careful.

None of these characters have healthy relationships with their partners or actually end up with their respective partners in the show. Except for Connor, which I respect him for that.

These are the thing I learnt about succession while binging on my mobile. It’s one of those shows that make you fall in love with it, but messes up your moral compass.

Have a lovely day!
