How Do You Like Your Henna?

So how do you like your henna?

Henna is a literal South Asian situation. I started drawing with Henna / Mehndi on my hands from when I was 13 years old. Before that, my cousin draws it for me.

Now it’s become easy to download designs off Instagram and the Internet but before then, it was ‘Mehndi design books’ and our own imagination.

This Eid, I tried a different aspect of Henna designing — usually it’s a free flow of designs that starts in the palm and is continued throughout the arm. But now, the fashion of Henna designing has evolved into Art, an Art that speaks for itself.

Azra, a Dubai based Designer could be a pioneer for all of this Art-incorporating Henna design ideas. After stalking her Instagram feed (@dr.azra), I thought of taking my Mehndi game to this whole new level of – representing thoughts into Art form.

Since I was feeling very Eid-y, I went for this crescent moon themed design that I saw from Azra’s feed :p

I used a regular Indian ‘Singh’ Mehndi cone, that already had a cut-opening. So the crescent outlines weren’t as thinner as Azra’s.

I’d really like to try new Mehndi patterns in the future. Messy or ugly, our Art describes our own strengths and failures. So there’s no need of feeling shame or hesitations in flaunting it!
