Dead To Me

I recently watched a show called Dead To Me, and it did not disappoint me at ALL. The show surrounds a middle-aged woman, Jen, who had recently lost her husband in a hit and run. She befriends an awkward, overly optimistic woman, Judy, who isn’t really what she seems. Several truths unfold, and relationships fall apart  Don’t wanna spoil anything for you, though. The fun and charismatic energy of these two characters made me binge-watch the whole show.

There’s something about eccentric characters like Judy. You don’t meet people like them often, but when you do, you don’t want to let them go. Sometimes, these people turn out to be total disappointments, but in Judy’s case, it’s an irresistible sense of comfort that makes it hard for us to see her flaws. I think it’s the writer’s brilliance in creating a unique character like Judy - who is very refreshing; specifically, because we don’t come across people like her in real life or even in movies. Linda Cardellini plays Judy in the show, and I guess she sprinkled her positive aura on the character.

Jen Harding, the main character on the show, played by Christina Applegate, is a total contrast to Judy. Jen is a hot-headed and on-your-face type of woman, who (seriously) if I met her in real life, would be friends with instantly. Jen makes you feel empowered. She doesn’t take bullshits from people, be it her close ones or strangers. The amalgamation of these two women is effortlessly entertaining.

Dead To Me shows how two women can be BFFs without any jealousy or malice. Jen and Judy aren’t perfect which makes their friendship very wholesome. This show also proves that the friends you make in your middle age are much more authentic than the ones in your twenties. Particularly women need each other as they’re ageing. Women, when they get older, develop a sense of care and protectiveness for other women naturally.

I’m thankful to the creators that made Dead To Me. It gave me something to hold dear to my heart. Season 3 drops soon on Netflix so get ready to watch!
