Celebrity Beauty Brands - Yay or Nay?

Are Celebrity Beauty Brands, an Yay or a Nay for you?

Another day, another celebrity beauty line. It's baffling to see how there are millions of beauty brands across the globe, literally.

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez was launched this week and I do have to say, it looks very pretty. I haven’t got my hands on it yet, but the packaging and marketing is off the mark. But the brand is getting some mixed reviews as well.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna is still so iconic and meets the needs of buyers, but not everyone can put out a brand like Riri, can they? I mean.. they can, but it’s still quite challenging to impress everyone.

One thing about celeb makeup line is, they always make over the top products. It’s never budget friendly nor drugstore available. They do promise customers good and vibrant quality makeup that brings out their authentic self. But does every celeb fulfill their promise?

Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner clearly isn’t sitting well with people, even her fans. According to a costumer review on KC’s velvet liquid lipstick, an user said, “The velvets have a nice creamy texture, they feel and look amazing on the lips and are not heavily perfumed. But they smudge as hell. Even hours after applying them I got lipstick everywhere, on my hands, my arms, in my face, even on my legs. Without eating, drinking or changing, it just kept happening by itself... So to be honest, they are not worth the money nor the hype.” (Source: trustpilot.com)

This is just one of many, but of course the brand has some happy customers as well.

Some said that “it’s very pricey” and some “cheap quality”. Claims are that Kylie doesn’t even use her products herself to glam up!

Too many people have complained on Fenty Beauty that their products either weren’t delivered to them at all or the customer service wouldn’t respond to their queries.

A customer says, “Awful customer service. The site says there may be some delay on your order and if you need to call, but no one ever answers their phone.” (Source: trustpilot.com)

But you might think every brand has these kinds of drawbacks. Yes, but it’s necessary for us to understand that even famous people make mistakes. Selena, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian do slip sometimes and our obsession with them shouldn’t pull the wool over our eyes.

Fans get dramatic when their favourite idol starts a brand and they promote their products in a way as if it has zero flaws. A person who genuinely wants to know about the product gets deluded by this and ends up being disappointed after trying the product.

Some merits of celeb beauty brands:

1. They are inclusive to all skin colours unlike Lakmé, Maybelline, YSL and so many other massive brands that aren’t inclusive to women of colour.

2. Mostly all of them are cruelty free and vegan.

3. We know who the owner is and their style of work essentially which makes us trust their products a bit.

But we are indeed thrilled to see which celebrity is gonna reveal their beauty / skin care line next.

Every beauty brand has its strengths and weaknesses and we can’t get it all in everything. But as customers we should sure be eagle eyed in pointing out things that are unconvincing to us, even if it’s our favourite person that we’re speaking out against.

What are your thoughts on celebrity makeup brands? Do you welcome it or you’re just, nah?
